Pellet stoves in thatched properties
Having installed stoves in many thatched homes, we’ve learnt that a pellet stove is the safest and most suitable solid-fuel option. Pellets contain only around 10 percent moisture, so they burn cleanly and create very little creosote inside the chimney.
Wood burning stoves often run with flue temperatures between 250 and 600 degrees Fahrenheit, which increases the risk of heat transfer in a thatched property. A pellet stove runs far cooler, at around 150 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and produces fewer sparks at the chimney top.
Cleaner, safer and more controllable, a pellet stove offers reliable warmth without the risks associated with traditional wood burning in a thatched home.
These same properties also make pellet stoves and ideal solution for houseboats.
